Violent confrontations in Gaza: Switzerland supports UN Secretary-General's call for independent inquiry

Bern, 31.03.2018 - The recent escalation shows the need to revitalise peace negotiations. Switzerland is working for just and lasting peace on the basis of a negotiated two-state solution.                

Switzerland is very concerned about the confrontations between Palestinians taking part in the 'Great Return March' and Israeli security forces. It calls on both sides to help de-escalate the situation. Switzerland supports the UN Secretary-General's call of 30 March for an independent and transparent investigation into the events.

Switzerland calls on all parties to observe human rights, in particular the right to life, and to stop the use of excessive lethal force.
