Through facilitating change in the performance of selected potential value chains, the project aims at increasing the income of women and men producers involved in the urban agriculture sector in Gaza Strip. It will engage with the different market actors and link them with the urban agriculture sub-sector stakeholders including local authorities, and public, private or civil society institutions.  This project is a result of a public tender on urban agriculture development in Gaza Strip.

Hintergrund
  • High unemployment and food insecurity.
  • Underperforming Agriculture sector due to different factors including: fast population growth, urban encroachment of agricultural land, water scarcity, and lack of production means due to Israeli blockade.
  • Low performance of the market
  • High potential for urban agriculture to enhance Gazans’s food security and improve their livelihoods, thus contributing to poverty reduction.
Ziele
  • Increase the income of small scale producers (women and men) through more effective and inclusive urban agriculture market systems
Zielgruppen

Subsistence, small and medium scale farmers (women and men) and communities involved in urban agriculture, including Community Based Organizations, cooperatives, service providers, agronomists and private companies.

Mittelfristige Wirkungen
  • Capacities and practices of stakeholders in urban agriculture sub-sector are improved and lead to increased employment and income opportunities of small scale producers (women and men)
  • Market functions in urban agriculture market system are improved and lead to increased access to market by small scale producers (women and men)
Resultate

Erwartete Resultate:  

  • Information on urban agriculture is available and used
  • Improved and low cost technologies and agricultural practices are capitalized and used
  • Increased qualitative service delivery and outreach by service providers targeting small scale farmers and producers (women and men)
  • Sustainable governing structures in urban agriculture are well functioning at local and regional levels
  • Changed attitude of consumers (women and men) on the value of Gaza urban agriculture production
