| Background | Violence, displacement, and a systemic collapse of essential services have marked the Gaza Strip since the outbreak of the war in October 2023, whereas in the West Bank humanitarian needs and protection concerns are also increasing. In both contexts, children are among the most affected: surveys reveal high fear, trauma, and hopelessness among children, increased levels of anxiety, depression, and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). In addition, children in the Gaza Strip have been deprived from access to education and safe learning environments, with the formal school system shut down since the start of the war. Across both contexts, safety, education and psychosocial wellbeing are under acute threat, making childfocused, integrated child protection and education in emergencies interventions an urgent priority. |
| Objectives | Vulnerable children and families affected by conflict in Gaza and the West Bank are protected from violence, abuse, and exploitation, and have safe, equitable access to psychosocial support and learning opportunities, delivered through a community-led response system that can adapt to ongoing and future emergencies. |
| Target groups | 17’000 conflict-affected children, youth and their caregivers. |
| Medium-term outcomes |
Outcome 1: Children, youth, caregivers, and communities in the West Bank and Gaza have reduced negative impacts of immediate and imminent protection risks. Outcome 2: School-aged children in Gaza have (re)integrated into non-formal education and have improved wellbeing. Outcome 3: Community-based organisations, NGOs, and key community actors in the West Bank and Gaza have the capacities to deliver high-quality, context-responsive protection services and can sustain locally-owned emergency response mechanisms. |
| Results |
Expected results: Output 1.1 Vulnerable children, adolescents, adults, and persons with disabilities accessed protection services, including MHPSS, PFA, case management, child protection, and GBV support. Output 1.2 Targeted communities gained awareness of protection risks—such as checkpoint violations, GBV, explosive ordnance, and parenting challenges—strengthening preventive and protective behaviours across all groups. Output 2.1 School-aged children have accessed safe, non-formal education in Temporary Learning Spaces TLSs, promoting continuity, psychosocial wellbeing, and child protection. Output 2.2 Families and communities have actively participated in children’s educational recovery. Output 3.1 Partner organisations have strengthened their technical capacities in child protection and MHPSS. Output 3.2: Community members, service providers, youth, and staff have been equipped with knowledge, tools, and awareness on GBV, SRHR, referral pathways though a series of tailored trainings.
