Local news, 23.12.2017

From 20 until 22 December 2017 a scoping mission by two Swiss consultants in the field of environmental protection took place in the Sultanate of Oman. The mission was initiated by H.E Najeeb Al-Rawas Undersecretary of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs and the Swiss Ambassador Stefano Lazzarotto.

The two Swiss experts made a feasibility assessment in view of a possible follow-up consultancy on environmental awareness in the Sultanate. Therefore the two consultants held several meetings with representatives of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs. Further meetings with the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Social Development and the Muscat Municipality were organized. In order to receive a broader picture on the current situation in terms of environmental awareness in the Sultanate of Oman, meetings with the two Civil society institutions Oman Environmental Services Holding Company “be'ah” and Environment Society of Oman ESO were held in addition.

The embassy of Switzerland would like to thank the Omani authorities and in particular the Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs, for their strong support, as well as the Swiss Business Hub Middle East  and the Swiss company Metall Zug AG for making this important mission possible. This project in the field of environmental awareness underlines again the very good and substantial bilateral relations between the two countries.
