Ensure access to water in water scarce communities, reduce water-borne disaster risks, and increase the availability of irrigation water in rain-fed areas of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Province of Pakistan. Objective: Contribute to an optimum use of water while decreasing the vulnerability of communities and increasing food security in selected rain-fed areas of districts Chitral, DI Khan and Karak of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province. Output: (1) 30 schemes for clean drinking water introduced for collective use (benefiting approx. 2’400 households or 20’000 persons). (2) 45 highly vulnerable villages are protected using low cost, simple DRR infrastructures (benefiting more than 3’600 households or 28’000 persons). (3) Capacity of villagers in 200 different locations are enhanced in disaster risk reduction measures. (4) Existing small irrigation systems are improved and new systems are established leading to 2’000 to 3’000 acres of land with new or improved irrigation. (5) Small ponds and dams are constructed for livestock and crop productions. (6) Soil conservation is promoted using structural and vegetative methods. (7) Surface water is conserved and optimally utilized for rejuvenating agricultural land. (8) Traditional Rodh Kohi system is improved on a sustainable basis in selected areas of DI Khan.
