Contributions to World Food Programme/Programa Mundial de Alimentos Field Operations in 2019

Projet terminé

As the food aid arm of the United Nations system,
the mission of the World Food Programme (WFP)
is to put an end to global hunger. The organisation
therefore works worldwide to ensure that the poorest
and most vulnerable, particularly women and
children, can access the nutritious food they need.
WFP works toward promoting food security, which
is defined as access for all people at all times to the
food they need for an active and healthy life. WFP
distinguishes itself from other UN agencies by its
dual humanitarian and development mandate which
dates back to its origins in 1961. In line with its mandate,
WFP also provides transport and logistical expertise
to ensure that humanitarian aid is delivered
both rapidly and effectively.

Objectifs

The WFP Strategic Plan for 2017-2021 provides
the framework for WFP’s operations. The plan prioritizes
efforts to end poverty, hunger and inequality,
encompassing humanitarian as well as development
efforts and is guided by the Sustainable Development
Goals (SDGs), in particular SDG 2 on ending
hunger and SDG 17 on revitalizing global partnerships
for implementation of the SDGs. The plan sets
out five strategic objectives:
• End hunger by protecting access to food
• Improve nutrition
• Achieve food security
• Support SDG implementation
• Partner for SDG results

WFP’s Country Strategic Plans are developed with
governments and a wide range of stakeholders.
They are based on a thorough context analysis, local
capabilities and needs, and articulate the actions
necessary to secure food and nutrition and to reduce
vulnerabilities and enhancing resilience. In addition,
WFP’s new Strategic Plan reinforces the importance
of increased synergy and cross-sectoral collaboration
among all UN agencies, particularly FAO and IFAD.
WFP partners with a wide range of stakeholders that
most clearly reflects its mandate, the strengths and
capacities for implementation of the overall objective
to achieve zero hunger.
