Rethinking Sanitation Systems: Resource Recovery and Safe Reuse (RR&R)

01.05.2015 - 31.12.2020

Building on the research results of the first phase, this project will directly address the combined challenges of making resource recovery and reuse a viable business opportunity and implementing Resource Recovery and Safe Reuse (RR&R) businesses in Kampala and Lima. At the same time the project will reduce public health and environmental risks associated with reuse and pave the way for scaling up Sanitation Safety Planning (SSP) at the global level.

The SABA Water and Sanitation Experience: Boosting Impact at Global Scale (SABA+)

01.12.2014 - 30.11.2018

Many countries transitioning to a higher economic status still struggle on the water and sanitation component. In countries where water supply or sanitation have been installed, aggregate outcomes tend to mask that the quality of services is poor, that inequalities are increasing and improvements in access do often not reach those groups who suffer most. Thus, new models of intervention and financing strategies are required for such countries.. Through this new initiative, and by finalizing a unique scaling-up process in Peru and replicating it in post-conflict areas of Colombia, SDC will also enrich the global debate on the fulfillment of the SDGs and the gradual exercise of the human right to water with a new model of intervention and a new financing strategy.

Climate change in Peru – Peruvian population learning to manage the consequences of climate change

01.05.2013 - 30.06.2017

Climate change is a great obstacle to development. In many places, it is jeopardising the progress that has been achieved to date. The Andean highlands of Peru are heavily affected by climate change. That is why the SDC is supporting a project in the country to secure the livelihoods of poor rural communities, and to strengthen their resilience to the effects of shifting weather patterns.

Nationally appropriated adaptation and mitigation forest action plan Andean region

01.02.2013 - 30.06.2017

Nationally Appropriated Mitigation Action Plans (NAMA) are new international climate policy instruments aimed at addressing developed and developing countries greenhouse gas emissions reductions while supporting sustainable development. Chile is one of the first countries to develop forest-sector NAMAs. SDC supports this innovative process in Chile and – through supporting South-South exchange – the extension of methods and approaches to Andean countries and others mountain forest countries.

Suizagua Andina, a Water Footprint project for Peru and Chile

15.10.2012 - 31.08.2016

Properly managed water resources are a critical component of growth, poverty reduction and equity. This is especially true for Peru and Chile. In both countries, competition for water as a key productive resource is increasing and conflicts over water are intensifying. With this project Switzerland aims at contributing to a better water resource management which is one of the most pressing regional development challenges.

Mitigation Action Plans and Scenarios Programme (MAPS)

01.06.2012 - 30.06.2017

The SABA Water and Sanitation Experience: Boosting Impact at Global Scale

01.05.2012 - 31.08.2016

For one of the first time in its history, SDC can exert important leverage effects – with little funding – upon nation-wide and international scaling up operations in Peru. The Global Program Water Initiatives decided to support this new generation of projects to demonstrate how SDC can generate added value and influence the global debate. The Peruvian authorities want to capitalize on SDC 15-year experience in rural water and sanitation in rural areas for boosting full national coverage of such services. This initiative is a new generation of projets required to respond: to the water& sanitation MDG’s water related targets and to the human right to access to water & sanitation.
