On 22 September 2013 the electorate approved a popular initiative proposing an amendment of the Constitution of the Canton of Ticino aimed at introducing a ban on covering the face in public spaces. Therefore it is a punishable offence for a person to cover (disguise) their face in public spaces, maing it impossible to identify them. The act will enter into force on 1 July 2016
