Introduction of a sustainable public transportation concept in Cluj-Napoca

Savings of energy and cost, lower noise and lower pollutant emissions in the city of Cluj-Napoca with the support of Switzerland.

Today, 29 July 2015, at the Cluj-Napoca City Hall  were signed the documents for finance the project "The replacement of the old diesel buses with electric buses and two charging stations". The project is part of the Swiss-Romanian Cooperation Programme.

The project objective is to introduce in Cluj-Napoca, on a pilot basis, a sustainable public transportation concept by battery-powered electrical buses. This concept improves the passenger comfort and economic and environmental aspects through savings of energy and cost , as well as through lower noise emissions and lower pollutant emissions, in the city. 
Expected outputs of the project implementation aim the purchasing of 10 electric buses powered by batteries and construction of 2 fast charging stations (Aurel Vlaicu street and Grigorescu district) and of 11 slow charging points (5 at Aurel Vlaicu street, 5 in Grigorescu district and 1 at the depot). Thus, by the implementation of the project is desired achieving savings in energy costs, a significant reduction in emissions and improved air quality in the city center and reducing of noise at half.

The two partner states were represented to the signing event by His Excellency, Mr Jean-Hubert Lebet Ambassador of Switzerland to Romania, Mr György Attila, State Secretary in the Ministry of Public Finance, Mrs. Sirma Caraman, State Secretary in the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Administration and Mr. Emil Boc, mayor of Cluj-Napoca municipality.

The total project value is CHF 7,596,398 out of which the Swiss grant amounts to CHF 6,456,938 and the co-financing of the beneficiary to CHF 1,139,460. The project implementation will take 18 months.
