Following the signing of the Project Agreement beforehand by His Excellency Mr Jean-Hubert Lebet as the representative of the financing state, the two documents were further signed by the Ministry of Public Finance, represented by Mr Attila Gyorgy, State Secretary, by the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Administration, represented by Mrs Sirma Caraman, State Secretary and by the Arad Municipality, represented by Mr Levente Bognar, deputy mayor.

The main objective of the project is to increase the efficiency of heating and hot water supply system in Arad. Through this project will be rehabilitated four of the six main thermal energy transportation lines and the distribution network of Aradul Nou district and the Aradul Nou substation will be transformed into a boiler plant operating on gas and biomass.

By implementing project's activities, it is estimated to reduce the losses in the network from 38% to 28%, the heat supply costs by 1.826.855 lei per year, emissions of CO2 by 8905 tons per year, losses of water by 31.500 mc per year. Moreover, yearly, 4.150 MWh energy, previously produced by fossil fuel consumption will be produced by renewable energy (biomass).

The Project shall be implemented in 42 months, with a total budget of 9.326.553 CHF, out of which the amount of 6.586.650 CHF represents the Swiss grant.

The project is part of a wider program - "Energy cities", financed through the Focus Area 4 - Improvement of the environment, within the Swiss-Romanian Cooperation Programme.
