Switzerland and Romania marked the launch of the Civic Engagement Programme, in the presence of the Swiss Ambassador Massimo Baggi, as well as the Head of the Swiss Contribution Office and Deputy Head of Mission Giacomo Solari, representatives from the Swiss Embassy, National Coordination Unit (Romanian Ministry of Finance), and from the consortium responsible for this programme (Civil Society Development Foundation, Romanian Environmental Partnership Foundation and KEK-CDC).
The Civic Engagement Programme aims to strengthen the civic space in Romania, by supporting the active participation of citizens in public life, promoting transparency and democracy, as well as supporting civil society organizations in their efforts to generate systemic changes in the country.
The event also reunited the representatives of the organizations selected for funding under 1st window (projects between CHF 0.5 and 1.5 million), who spoke about their action directions and the systemic changes they aim to achieve through their initiatives. The areas covered by these strategic projects are:
- Fight against discrimination and social exclusion (2 projects to be funded);
- Protection of biodiversity and environmental rights (3 projects to be funded);
- Media transparency and investigative journalism (2 projects to be funded);
- Assistance to victims of violence (gender-based violence, human trafficking, violence against children, etc.) (2 projects to be funded);
During the second part of the event, information on the 2nd Window call have been provided, which has been published on 17th October 2025, and addressed to projects between CHF 50'000 - 200'000.
Through the joint effort of partners from Romania and Switzerland, the Civic Engagement Programme becomes a platform for collaboration and a long-term investment in participatory democracy in Romania.
