A working meeting devoted to the improvement of the position of vulnerable groups in society was organized by the Social Inclusion and Poverty Reduction Unit of the Government of the Republic of Serbia (SIPRU), to mark the International Day for Eradication of Poverty.

Participants of the meeting agreed that social inclusion is an important element to overcome poverty and needs to be tackled on local and national level and by international institutions. The position of vulnerable groups, especially children, women and elderly can only be improved with an appropriate strategic approach, strong institutional framework and the devotion and cooperation of all relevant actors.

The participants of the working meeting were Mr. Zoran Djordjević, Minister for Labor, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs, Ms. Jovanka Atanacković, advisor to the Minister in the Ministry for Construction, Transport and Infrastructure, Mr. Anas Karman, Deputy Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme, and Ms. Ursula Läubli, Director of the Swiss Cooperation Office, Embassy of Switzerland to the Republic of Serbia. Researchers from Belgium and Ireland presented the experiences of other countries in combating poverty and inequality.
