Together Against Floods in Paracin

An event entitled "Together Against Floods" was held in Paracin, a municipality that was heavily affected during floods in 2014, with the aim of presenting flood prevention measures supported by donors in Serbia.

The flood defense was presented jointly by the Sector for Emergency Situations of the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Serbia, Public Enterprise "Srbijavode", European Union (EU), United Nations Development Program (UNDP), Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), Red Cross, Civil Protection of Paracin and Caritas.

Marko Blagojevic, Director of the Public Investment Management Office of the Republic of Serbia, addressed participants at the beginning of the event. He indicated that significant progress in flood prevention has been made in the last four years, in comparison to the floods that hit Serbia in 2014. However,  there is a lot of work and effort required in order to say that Serbia is completely safe.

Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Project, financed by Switzerland, presented its planned activities for Paracin, which foresee raising of several pedestrian and traffic bridges. During the event, the Project team was available to explain to citizens of Paracin the approach and the foreseen effects. The overall project budget is EUR 2.5 million.
