Capturing „New Perspectives“ in Serbia

Local news, 25.05.2017

Swiss Cooperation Office in Serbia in collaboration with the Mikser Festival has organised a photo contest “New Perspectives”. The aim of the contest was to visually present a vision that young people in Serbia have for the future. The Mikser Festival 2017 focused on establishing new relationships between the urban environment, society, art, nature and technology to form four main festival topics – migration, education in motion, the factory of culture, nature of the city.

During the Mikser Festival, May 25-28th, the 20 finalist of the Swiss supported contest were presented in an authentic exhibition space in the former Žitomlin silos at lower Dorćol. Ursula Läubli, Director of the Swiss Cooperation Office, opened the exhibition stating that “The Swiss Cooperation Office wanted to give an opportunity to young artists to express their views on the perspectives they have here. This will also support us in presenting our new Cooperation Strategy 2018-21 visually”.

Visitors of the Festival had an opportunity to vote for their favourites during the exhibition, as well as through the Mikser Festival website. More than 700 people voted at the Festival location, totalling to more than 1400 votes overall! The contest jury and the public have chosen the best photos: Darko Nikolic 1.prize, Dario Maric 2.prize, Sanja Knezevic 3.prize. As this activity is part of the preparation for the launch of the new Cooperation Strategy with Serbia, the first prize winner will be engaged to take photos of the Swiss programs in Serbia. The idea is the move out from the “traditional” style project capturing to having an innovative look into the new perspectives, jointly. The finalists were also in a position to meet with the SCO staff and exchange face to face on how they see life in Serbia and explain what stands behind their photos. This was an excellent opportunity for the SCO to validate through artistic instruments its approach for its support to Serbia for the next four years and to introduce some new fresh views in its work!
