Support to Drought and Conflict Affected Population in Southern Somalia

Recurrent droughts are a key factor affecting Food Security and Livelihood in El Barde District, considering that 80% of the population are pastoralists who depend on livestock and derived product. After coping mechanisms have been eroded both local and displaced pastoralists depend on humanitarian assistance. The intervention strives to reduce that dependency by rebuilding and enhancing the resilience of pastoralist livelihood.

SDC funding to WFP operations allows the World Food Programme (WFP) to respond proactively and to provide immediate food assistance in life-threatening situations and underfunded emergencies.
