SSD, Concordis - Building resilience in Abyei and the surrounding borderlands of Sudan and South Sudan
SCO Juba contributes to an intervention of Concordis International, aiming at strengthening resilience to conflict and climate shocks across Abyei and the Sudan–South Sudan borderlands. The 4-year project focuses on inclusive peacebuilding, intercommunal dialogue, and cross-border market cooperation. It addresses the intertwined risks of displacement, resource competition, and political manipulation in this contested region.

| Contexte | The Abyei Administrative Area and the Sudan–South Sudan borderlands are marked by unresolved disputes, fragile governance, and competition over land and resources. Communities such as the Ngok Dinka, Misseriya, Twic Dinka, and Nuer face recurring violence, youth militarisation, and political manipulation, exacerbated by displacement, floods, and droughts. Cross-border markets like Amiet drive interdependence but also spark conflict when tensions rise. Yet, local peace institutions and traditional authorities remain vital entry points for dialogue and resilience in this contested region. |
| Objectifs | State and non-state actors in Abyei and the borderlands of Sudan and South Sudan gain the resilience to manage conflict effectively and to the mutual benefit of the populations. |
