Con il progetto s’intende migliorare a lungo termine l'approvvigionamento idrico non solo per le 720'000 persone che vivono nello Stato sud sudanese del Bahr el Ghazal settentrionale, ma anche per il loro bestiame. Questa regione, che confina con il Nord , è una delle più povere al mondo e dal 2005, anno in cui è stato firmato l’accordo di pace tra il Nord e il Sud , è stata teatro di uno dei più massicci rientri di sfollati sud sudanesi.

Un’isola di cure in un mare di sfollati

A Minkamann, nel centro del Sudan del Sud, sono operative cinque cliniche mediche che offrono le cure di base agli sfollati vittime dei combattimenti che infiammano il Paese dal mese di dicembre 2013. L’iniziativa di Medici Senza Frontiere Svizzera, sostenuta dalla DSC, è una sfida permanente. Finora circa un milione di sud-sudanesi hanno fuggito le loro abitazioni.

Utilizzo sostenibile delle risorse di legname nel Sudan del Sud

Nel Sudan del Sud il legname rappresenta un importante vettore energetico e un materiale da costruzione molto diffuso. In seguito al massiccio afflusso di profughi provenienti dal Sudan, in alcune regioni la pressione sulle già limitate risorse naturali, tra cui il legno, si è ulteriormente accentuata. La DSC finanzia dunque un progetto di mappatura delle foreste per favorire un utilizzo sostenibile del legno nel Sudan del Sud.

South Sudan finds itself in lasting state of fragility and chronic conflict that has impacted the social fabric of its population. The project will address deeply rooted social aspects of conflict by training and supporting young peacemakers to engage in conflict resolution and community dialogues. Combined with the promotion of youth-led businesses, the project intends to reduce the risk of the youth entering cycles of despairs and violence. Thereby, it contribute to sustainable development and a longer-term stability in South Sudan.
OVCI - Improving nutritional condition of most vulnerable groups in Juba

Malnutrition among children and other vulnerable groups remains worse as a result of the prevailing food insecurity situation in South Sudan. According to the 2019 Humanitarian Response Plan (HRP) for South Sudan, some 1.8 million people – the majority of which are children under five years - face malnutrition. Through this project, Volunteers Organization for International Co-operation (OVCI) intends to address malnutrition of vulnerable children, pregnant and lactating mothers and other destitute persons in Juba County by improving their dietary intake.

OCHA advocates for effective and principled humanitarian action by all, for all, in partnership with national and international actors in order to alleviate human suffering in sudden-onset disasters and protracted crises. It is responsible for bringing together humanitarian actors to ensure a coherent and timely response to emergencies. Therefore, SDC seeks to provide support to OCHA field and regional offices in relevant humanitarian contexts, in line with SDC geographic and thematic priorities.

In line with the Good Humanitarian Donorship (GHD) principles, Switzerland recognizes the necessity of predictable and flexible funding to respond to changing needs in humanitarian crises. SDC funding to ICRC operations allows the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to respond proactively and to provide immediate protection and assistance for people affected by armed conflict and other situations of violence.

This project aims at enhancing security coordination and local contextual understanding to increase humanitarian access to insecure locations both inside and outside of Protection of Civilian (PoC) sites. Through enhanced understanding of the context, operational threats can be better mitigated by NGOs, facilitating scale-up of programme and service delivery to the affected population in South Sudan’s Upper Nile and Unity States.

Reducing the Prevalence and Impact of Violence in Western Equatoria

Nonviolent Peaceforce’s (NP) intervention in Mundri County, Western Equatoria State is aimed at reducing the prevalence and impact of violence. Key activities will include conducting patrols in risky areas, protective accompaniments, advocacy, conducting trainings workshops, awareness raising activities etc. Through this intervention, Switzerland contributes to creating sustainable grassroots-led peaceful solutions to conflict, promotion of Human Rights, SGBV prevention and response among conflict affected communities.
South Sudan, Concern Worldwide: NGO Forum Support

This is the fourth phase of support to the NGO-Forum in South Sudan, aiming at contributing to the effectiveness and coordination of emergency humanitarian response and development programming in South Sudan. Food Security and livelihoods support for farmers and IDP's from Yei and Maridi States and refugees in Bidibidi, Uganda

Through this corss-border project, Caritas Belgium and its partners intend to meet the basic food needs of vulnerable residents trapped in the beleaguered city of Yei/Central Equatoria, to improve the food security and livelihoods of farmers in Maridi County/Western Equatoria and to (re-)build the livelihoods of newly arrived South Sudanese refugees and vulnerable Ugandan host communities in and around the Bidibidi refugee settlement.
