The Swiss Embassy to the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka is closely following the recent events in Sri Lanka, and in particular the announcement to prorogue Parliament until November 16th. It calls on all parties, to act in accordance with the Constitution, follow due process and respect the democratic principles, the independence of institutions and freedom of media. Switzerland also urges all parties to refrain from the use of force.

Switzerland aims to contribute to the abolition of capital punishment throughout the world by 2025, the target set by the FDFA's Strategy on the Universal Abolition of the Death Penalty.
