The Ministry of Telecommunication, Foreign Employment and Sports, the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment and the Embassy of Switzerland in Sri Lanka initiated a program in Colombo on 28th January 2019 to support Sri Lankan migrant workers and those who are aspiring to take up foreign employments.

The Swiss Embassy to the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka is closely following the recent events in Sri Lanka, and in particular the announcement to prorogue Parliament until November 16th. It calls on all parties, to act in accordance with the Constitution, follow due process and respect the democratic principles, the independence of institutions and freedom of media. Switzerland also urges all parties to refrain from the use of force.

Switzerland's commitment to a world without capital punishment

Switzerland strongly opposes the death penalty in all parts of the world and under all circumstances. The right to life and respect for human dignity are central tenets of Swiss foreign policy on human rights. Switzerland aims to contribute to the abolition of capital punishment throughout the world by 2025, the target set by the FDFA's Strategy on the Universal Abolition of the Death Penalty.
