WHO – Midwife Training Centre Kutum North-Darfur
The Federal Ministry of Health (FMoH) and the Darfur Regional Authority (DRA) launched a Health and Nutrition Recovery Strategy for Darfur on 17 October 2012, stipulating that at least one midwife shall be available in each village. 1’971 villages are not been able to follow this policy. With 52% of Darfurians under 16 years, reproductive age is very high. With a midwife training centre decentralised from the capital, the focus will be put on nomadic women who are not allowed by their families to join the only midwife school in the state capital El Fasher. They will serve many areas of North Darfur contributing to reducing maternal and neonatal mortality rate as well as to the empowerment of nomadic women.
