Hintergrund

The metropolitan area of Greater Khujand is experiencing rapid urbanisation and population growth, which is aggravated through a high number of returning economic migrants from Russia. The issue of public transport is key to economic inclusion and a major challenge for Khujand?s urban development. Women and the poorer part of the population tend to have less access to individual transport by car and are estimated to benefit disproportionately from the access to improved public transport services.

Ziele

The project objective is to enhance social and economic inclusion by establishing an accessible, reliable and affordable public passenger transport service in Khujand. As a co-benefit, the project will contribute to climate change mitigation.
