Cross-border Cooperation for Sustainable Peace and Development
Project completed
The relations between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan suffered an increasing cross-border tension caused by unfinished border demarcation and ethnic disputes as well as disputes on access to natural resources. The authorities fear an escalation into an open “inter-ethnic conflict”, but lack resources and capacities to conduct conflict prevention activities at field level. This project is a timeous initiative to contribute to address this conflictual situation on the ground before it escalates into open and possibly broader conflict.
