The photo exhibition "Aaruul and Justistaler", which was created by the SDC and shown in autumn 2014 at the Natural History Museum of Bern, has now begun a tour through Switzerland.  The exhibition shows around fifty photographs highlighting the common features shared by Switzerland and Mongolia. It will be first hosted in Gossau alongside a Swiss-Mongolian yodelling concert.

Switzerland and Mongolia have more in common than might appear at first glance: wild mountainous regions, respect for culture and traditions, and a self-professed affinity with nature.  But they are also very different, considering in particular that more than a quarter of Mongolians live below the poverty line.

For this reason, the SDC has been to date working in Mongolia for ten years. Its activities are aimed at improving living conditions for local communities and strengthening citizen participation in political processes.

Inside a yurt

The exhibition features beautiful photographs displayed inside a traditional Mongolian yurt. The images – which were taken both in Switzerland and Mongolia – skilfully play on the cultural and aesthetic similarities between the two countries, telling in their own way the story of cooperation between the Swiss and Mongolian nations.

The exhibition is to be seen in Gossau at the invitation of the yodelling ensemble "Alpsteinblick", which will give a concert organised jointly with the Mongolian troupe "Domog" on Saturday 18 April. Felix Fellmann, director of the SDC office in Mongolia from 2008 to 2013, will also talk about his experiences and answer questions from the audience at this event.
