Switzerland facilitates the financial capability in Tajikistan

On June 19, in Dushanbe, the Swiss Secretariat of Economic Cooperation (SECO) through the Responsible Microfinance project (implemented by the IFC) conducted a media workshop for journalists to discuss innovations in promotion of financial capability in Tajikistan.

The main objective of the workshop was to help journalists better develop the messages and increase the public awareness on importance of financial decision people make every day.

All participants learned the basics of financial capability, its difference from financial literacy, understood how to develop a content to change financial behaviors of target population in Tajikistan and to help them make better financial decisions. 

“Strong financial capability is not only a key prerequisite for fostering responsible financial inclusion but also it is very important step in women empowerment”- noted Corinne Demenge, Deputy Director of the Swiss Cooperation Office in Tajikistan. She also emphasized:  “It has traditionally happened that women are mainly responsible for wise and efficient managing of their household’s budget, to prioritize expenditures and to put financial targets.  Future prosperity of a family, big changes for better and quality of the life depend on these daily small decisions. It is even more important for families, wives, daughters and mothers who want to see their relatives back from labor migration thanks to savings made and businesses opened”

This year Switzerland celebrates the 20th anniversary of the Swiss Cooperation Office in Dushanbe. Within the framework of a comprehensive cooperation and development program, Switzerland has supported the People and the Government of Tajikistan in reforming the health, water and natural resource management sectors, in increasing access to justice and in facilitating the country’s transition towards a market economy. Switzerland invests approximately 20 Million USD per year in projects implemented in all parts of Tajikistan.
