The Mission of Switzerland to the European Union together with the ICRC Delegation in Brussels will host a roundtable discussion on „150 years of the First Geneva Convention – Enhancing Compliance with International Humanitarian Law Today” on 29 April 2014 from 10.30 to 13.00h.

While states generally agree that International Humanitarian Law (IHL) remains the appropriate legal framework for regulating the conduct of parties to armed conflicts and providing protection for victims, compliance has always been the challenge of IHL. Despite an evident need, IHL compliance mechanisms have essentially not served the purpose for which they were envisaged. Experts from the EU Institutions, member and partner states, NATO, NGO’s and the ICRC will share their views and expertise on how adherence to IHL can be strengthened.

Une Suisse surprenante pour l'Europe du futur: "Le CICR: 150 ans de droit et d’action humanitaires"

Pour marquer le 150ème anniversaire de cette première convention de Genève, la Mission Suisse auprès de l’Union européenne et le rectorat de l’Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB) vous invitent à une conférence exceptionnelle donnée par le Dr. Peter Maurer, président du CICR. Cette conférence, ouverte par le Pr. Didier Viviers, recteur de l’ULB et introduite par le Prof. Vaios Koutroulis, abordera la naissance du droit international humanitaire, son évolution ainsi que les actions qui en découlent.
