"Research in digital humanities is likely to undergo an evolution which is similar to life sciences 30 years ago". Does this statement hold? For answering this question, the Mission of Switzerland to the EU and SwissCore jointly organise a Swiss Science Briefing on "Digital Humanities: the way out of the ivory tower?"
The briefing will provide an insight into this emerging field at the cornerstone of many scientific disciplines where education, research and innovation go hand in hand with the ambition to reach out to society at large.
TED speaker Frédéric Kaplan, Head of the Digital Humanities Lab at the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), will introduce the topic and present its views on Digital Humanities. His talk will be followed by a presentation of Dorit Raines, Assistant Professor at the 
Università Ca’ Foscari in Venice, on the Venice Time Machine, a joint project launched in 2013 which combines information and communication technologies with environmental and historical sciences to design a geographical and temporal map of the city.
The presentations will be followed by a panel discussion and offer time for debate with the participants. The briefing aims at answering questions such as the challenges the multidisciplinarity field of digital humanities are facing, what the innovation and economic potential of such a field is and how to form a new generation of scientists.
