With the UN Interagency Cluster on Trade and Productive Capacity (UN Trade Cluster) SECO responds to the political relevance of the "Aid for Trade" initiative. The approach integrates the various core competences of SECO's trade related technical assistance, which have been developed in cooperation with strategic multilateral partners of the UN system such as UNCTAD, ILO, UNIDO and ITC.

Hintergrund

Tanzania benefits from the second UN Trade Cluster country project financed by SECO since 2014. The Project is closely aligned to the Enhanced Integrated Framework process. An evaluation of Phase 1 of the project showed satifactory results and recommended a follow-up extit phase. The project is active in the tourism sector, establishes backward linkages to local industries (mainly agrobusiness), promotes Responsible Tourism and private public dialogue, and is part of the Horticulture- and Tourism Components of the Government?s Trade Sector Development Programme.

Ziele

The overall objective of the country project in Tansania is "to improve the livelihoods (including income, competitiveness and market integration) of Tanzanians through a greater adoption of market value chains for agro-products and Responsible Tourism Criteria based on the local context for Tourism markets."

Mittelfristige Wirkungen

Outcome 1: Producers deliver higher quantities of safe high-quality Tanzanian horticulture and agro-processed products to the tourism sector in Arusha and Dar Coastal areas especially to hotels and restaurants.

Outcome 2: The National College of Tourism is strengthened and provides better trained staff to the tourism sector. Tourism between Switzerland and Tanzania is strengthened.

Outcome 3: Increased mainstreaming of trade related Responsible Tourism criteria in Public Private Dialogue mechanisms.

Resultate von früheren Phasen:  

Public Private Dialogue and policy level has embedded responsible tourism issues- Increased National College of Tourism (NCT) revenue by 9%/mth- Increased NCT capacity (all 48 staff trained)- NCT apprentice scheme established with partner hotels- 227 farmers received entrepreneurship training and showed increases in income and/or productive capacity- supply doubled of dairy producer?s produce to Hotel Group- Agro-processor signed supply contracts with 19 supermarkets and 12 hotels- 3 Greenhouses established at horticultural training institute that showcase growing high quality produce and contracted sales to supermarkets and hotels.
