The Nathan Mpangala Foundation (NMF) held a three-day workshop between 7 and 9 June to strengthen skills of young artists in the art of editorial cartoons. The training took place at the Nafasi Art Space, a contemporary art centre and creative hub in Dar es Salaam.

A small group of selected editorial cartoonists, mostly self-taught, got the opportunity to learn about cartoon fundamentals and various techniques of creating effective cartoons and caricatures. Editorial cartoons can be used for political commentary and social messaging but more importantly, contribute to the liberty of expression.

The Embassy of Switzerland supported the workshop as part of its efforts to promote worthwhile initiatives within the arts and culture sector. The Swiss Ambassador and Representative to the East African Community, Arthur Mattli, handed over certificates to the 10 successful participants at the end of the workshop. The cartoons and caricatures developed were later exhibited for public viewing at Nafasi Art Space.
