Safeguard Young People (SYP) – Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR)

The UNFPA Safeguard Young People programme (SYP) will contribute to the reduction of HIV infections and improved sexual and reproductive health and rights status of young women and men aged 10 to 24 in eight Southern African countries: Zambia, Swaziland, Malawi, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Lesotho. UNFPA will scale up SRHR/HIV prevention models and youth friendly health services (YFHS) in order to equip young people with knowledge, skills and values to protect themselves and capacitate member states to improve the legislative environment to address young people’s health issues.

Cultural Programme Tanzania (CPT)

This programme uses a comprehensive approach to promote local culture and livelihood opportunities for young artists, and for social cohesion. It aims to do so through institutional and specific projects’ support. The programme is in alignment with SDC’s Culture and Development Policy that supports devoting a minimum of 1% of SDC’s operational budget in a country to initiatives in the local artistic and culture sector.

Strengthening Agro-biodiversity in Southern Africa

The project promotes seed diversity and agro-ecological practices through an inclusive, evidence-based dialogue with governments at regional and country levels by empowered farmer’s and farmer support organizations ensuring that their experiences are taken into account in the development of policies and programmes in agriculture. This will thus strengthen food security in Southern Africa.

Strengthening Social Accountability and Oversight in Health and Agriculture

The projected intervention aims at improving public resources management and services delivery in health and agriculture sectors through strengthening the oversight and social accountability roles as well as the capacities of selected parliamentary committees and civil society organisations (CSOs) in the region. It facilitates knowledge sharing and learning at regional level and supports collaborations between parliamentary committees and CSOs in five SADC countries.

Children's Village Mbingu - Food Aid Swiss Dairy Products (Tanzania)

Through the usage of food aid in the form of Swiss dairy products, Swiss Humanitarian Aid contributes to the prevention and treatment of malnutrition, undernourishment, and disease. The SDC’s Humanitarian Aid administers the credit granted by parliament for a yearly amount of some CHF 20 million destined for the purchase of Swiss dairy products and their use for the benefit of the needy. Its task is to ensure a sustainable, targeted, and closely monitored food aid.

Regional Psychosocial Support Initiative (REPSSI)

The Regional Psychosocial Support Initiative (REPSSI) supports policy development and provides technical support for the improvement of psychosocial wellbeing and mental wellness of children and young people to mitigate the negative impact of HIV and AIDS, poverty, and other vulnerabilities. It provides technical assistance to governments and non-governmental organizations to integrate and implement psychosocial support into social services, health and education in East and southern Africa.

Transforming Tanzania's Charcoal Sector

01.12.2015 - 31.03.2020

The project formalizes, up-scales and promotes a tested and functioning model of a sustainable, more energy efficient charcoal value chain. A Community Based Forest Management approach contributes to the generation of higher incomes from charcoal and other forest products and related royalties invested into community development through local governance mechanisms, benefitting 80’000 villagers. The existing model of 8 Kilosa villages is extended to 22 new villages in 3 districts through practical stakeholder training.


Performance-based Health Basket Fund

With its contribution to the health basket fund Switzerland supports the Government of Tanzania, in particular local governments, to accelerate equitable access to health services by women, children and isolated rural populations. Switzerland, as chair of the health development partners group, will lever the Fund resources through policy dialogue to create an innovative financing modality to ensure the utilization of all Tanzanians of quality health services.


Seeds and Access to Markets Project (SAMP) Phase 3

The project contributes to increased food and nutrition security of smallholder farmers by improving availability of and access to adequate quantities of quality seeds and planting material of suitable and diversified crop varieties. This enables smallholder farmers to produce enough food to sustain themselves, their communities, and earn higher incomes. The project strengthens national and local farmer-led institutions, supports community seed and commodity production and strengthens seed and commodity distribution networks.

Progetto volto alla promozione della salute e al potenziamento del sistema sanitario nelle regioni di Dodoma, Morogoro e Shinyanga.

Il progetto per la promozione della salute e il potenziamento del sistema sanitario (Health Promotion and System Strenghening, HPPS) sta migliorando l’accesso ai servizi sanitari e la loro qualità tanto sul fronte della domanda (promozione della salute, assicurazione sanitaria) quanto su quello dell’offerta (approvvigionamento di farmaci, manutenzione delle apparecchiature mediche). Visti gli ottimi risultati ottenuti con il progetto pilota nella regione di Dodoma, il Governo della Tanzania ha chiesto alla DSC di estendere questo sistema anche ad altre due regioni con particolare riguardo per le  fasce di popolazione più a rischio (poveri, donne, bambini, giovani e anziani).

Mobilitazione contro l’HIV/AIDS nelle prigioni dell’Africa australe

Alla luce delle cifre allarmanti della presenza dell’HIV/AIDS nelle prigioni dell’Africa australe, la DSC s’impegna a riformare il sistema delle cure in ambito penitenziario in Malawi, Swaziland, Zambia e Zimbabwe. Le autorità interessate sono accompagnate nell’attuazione di standard di cura predefiniti. Il personale delle carceri segue corsi di formazione. Inoltre vengono finanziate nuove infrastrutture destinate in particolare alle donne e ai detenuti giovani.
