Tunesien, Short-term employment schools

Progetto concluso

The number one preoccupations of the Tunisian population at large are the unequal economic opportunities that were at the core of the revolutionary changes, as well as the economic slow-down following the historic change. The governorates of Medenine and Tataouine adjacent to the Libyan border have been particularly affected because of the hosting Libyan refugees and the interruption of cross-border trade. As per the Programme North Africa, Switzerland’s engagement will include short-term measures to help stabilize the fragile situation and contribute to optimal conditions for a successful democratic transition. The present proposal foresees the creation of short-term employment in Medenine and Tataouine to the tune of 200 full-time jobs throughout 1 year by rehabilitating and/or extending 6 pre-elected schools which potentially host 300 students. The proposal also aims to reinforce local governance in the education sector (Domain 1) and the protection of school children through child-friendly school rehabilitation standards (Domain 3).
