| Hintergrund |
Ukraine is one of the most energy intensive countries in the world and depends on imported gas. The Ukrainian government is emphasizing on energy efficiency and renewable energy in its strategies which should to a large extent be implemented by cities and municipalities whose abilities to finance infrastructure and enter into loan agreements are limited. The Eastern Europe Energy Efficiency and Environment Partnership (E5P) was created as a multi-donor trust fund to co-finance municipal investments in energy efficiency and environmental projects. Besides Ukraine E5P also covers other countries of the former Soviet Union, including Georgia. |
| Ziele |
The overall goal of the E5P is to contribute to the reduction of energy intensity of Ukraine which is presently three times higher than the average of the EU. By leveraging financing for investments into energy efficiency and environmental projects, the E5P contributes to energy savings and the reduction of CO2 emissions in Ukraine. By directing its investments towards municipalities, utilities and homeowners, the E5P empowers cities, utilities and citizens to address their challenges in the fields of energy efficiency and environment. |
