Mr Cassis will address a gathering of representatives of states and international organisations, including Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Chmyhal, on Tuesday morning. French President Emmanuel Macron and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will open the high-level conference via videoconference.
The Paris conference aims to strengthen ties among the various actors working to assist Ukraine. The priority is to set up a mechanism to coordinate the emergency and humanitarian response over the next four months, particularly in the areas of energy, water, food security, health, and transport.
Process initiated in Lugano
Switzerland has extensive experience in development and humanitarian aid in Ukraine. The first reconstruction initiative for Ukraine was launched by Switzerland at the Ukraine Recovery Conference held in Lugano in July. Subsequent conferences in support of Ukraine were held in Warsaw and Berlin.
