A new phase of the Syrdarya Water Supply Project has been launched in the country, implemented due to a grant from the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) of Switzerland.

The aim of the project is to assist water utilities in Samarkand city, Bukhara and Syrdarya provinces to improve the management efficiency of water supply services and to reform the legal framework. In addition, it provides for the development of conceptual solutions for institutional strengthening of organizations working in the area.

Within the launched phase it is planned to design the programs of corporate development for the three water utilities. It will focus on optimization and automation of production processes, which will improve the key indicators of financial and economic activities of water supply companies, as well as the quality of work with the population by improving the efficiency of Customer Service.

It should be noted that the specialists of the Swiss Cooperation Office in Uzbekistan, with the assistance of the Agency "Uzkommunkhizmat" have already held an introductory seminar within the project, which was attended by representatives of the World Bank and Asian Bank, government agencies, the Agency "Uzkommunkhizmat", water utilities and khokimiyats of Samarkand and cities of Bukhara and Syrdarya provinces.

In the opinion of foreign experts, regular meetings assisting in establishing close cooperation with the staff of water utilities will enhance the capacity of public services in the regions covered by the project.
