Cross-border tax evasion should be prevented with the help of the new global standard by the OECD for the automatic exchange of information (AEOI). Switzerland welcomes the new international standard, to which it contributed actively. Within the framework of an agreement Switzerland and the EU intend to collect account data from 2017 onward and exchange it from 2018.
After consultation of the competent parliamentary committees and the cantons, the Federal Council adopted negotiation mandates for introducing the new global standard for the automatic exchange of information in tax matters with partner states, among them the EU, on 8 October 2014.
Switzerland and the EU signed such an agreement on 27 May 2015. The agreement replaces the taxation of savings agreement with the EU and applies for all 28 EU member states.
