Improving Warsaw Commuter Rail Services

The project contributes to the implementation of the Polish government's public transportation policy: It increases the share of public transport, connects sub-regional centers and establishes an effective and safe public transport system.

The goal of the project is to improve health and living conditions for the whole population in the covered region and to improve environmental conditions, particularly with regard to air quality, in the covered region.

The direct beneficiary is the Warsaw Commuter Rail Ltd. as the company receiving six new modern traction units and a state of the art Passenger Information and Monitoring System. Indirect beneficiaries are i) passengers benefitting from better connections, shorter travel times, higher comfort, better information and improved safety; ii) elderly and differently abled people benefitting from easy access to the new traction units; and iii) inhabitants of the south-western part of the Warsaw metropolitan area due to improved public transport services.

• Procurement of six modern electric traction train units
• Procurement and installation of Passenger Information and Monitoring System with 101 information panels.
• Track maintenance on a length of 16 km. 
• Construction of up to 16 automatic level crossings with barrier systems.

Erreichte Resultate:  

• Six trains have been delivered and 101 passenger information and monitoring systems have been installed.
• The new rolling stock meets the modern traffic safety standards and is adjusted to the needs of disabled people. Higher frequencies and a reduction of travel time have been achieved on the railway line.
• Height level crossings were equipped with new Automatic Signalling System devices, and 25 km of railway lines underwent comprehensive repairs.
• According to surveys, the percentage rate of passengers satisfied with the quality of the service has increased by 25%.
