Technical Assistance Fund Urban Mobility

Mobility is a key factor in determining the economic productivity and quality of life in cities. However, Peru’s current urban mobility situation produces unusually high negative externalities for the economy, citizens and the environment. Recognizing this importance, the Peruvian Government initiated reform steps, resulting in the country’s first ever urban transport strategy. Nevertheless, the horizontal collaboration between line ministries in urban mobility as well as the vertical collaboration between national and sub-national level is insufficient. This results in low quality of public transport services.

Collaboration between the Transport and the Housing Ministries contributes to the identification and development of joint opportunity areas to improve urban mobility in the cities of Peru

Selected operational aspects of integrated transport systems are tested in cities with metropolitan transport agencies

Targeted measures to mitigate negative externalities of the current public transport model are tested

Experiences of private service providers have informed the development of demonstration projects to improve service provision
