Global challenges require global responses. In a bid to find innovative solutions, the SDC launched the Global Programmes and brings specialists together.
The SDC works with five Global Programmes:
The SDC conducts practical projects which affect regional and international policy. It fosters innovation in technology, in the application of new technologies and in forms of cooperation.
The programmes take a global approach and set priorities in a selection of countries and regions. The decisive criteria for selection are effectiveness, complementarity to other actors, as well as the political will and the role of the country concerned in solving these problems.
As far as climate change is concerned, the SDC works together with the emerging economic powers including China, India and South Africa. These emerging economies, given their rapid rate of growth, will in future be among the biggest consumers of energy. They have shown their readiness to help solve global energy and environmental problems. Moreover, any political measures taken by major economies have far-reaching consequences well beyond their national borders.
The Global Programmes benefit from the experiences of the SDC and its partners. Specialists are organised into networks in specific fields, promoting the exchange of know-how. This know-how is managed and continuously developed in the networks where experiences are processed, good ideas of others are collected, and innovations are developed. Of course, the SDC itself also continuously develops the networks.
The SDC is making an important contribution by bringing together representatives from politics, public administration, the private sector, research and civil society. These partnerships lead to innovative and viable solutions, and increase effectiveness.
