International Finance Corporation: Corporate Governance

Good Corporate Governance is recognized around the world as a key element for an efficient and transparent functioning of private sector companies and the development of capital markets. Through the support provided by this project, companies in Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan will improve their corporate governance practices. This will enable the companies to attract more financing from investors, improve their operational performance and enhancing the potential to achieve long-term growth. The project is implemented by the International Finance Corporation (IFC).

Waster Water Treatment Plant in Thala and Feriana

This project aims at implementing wastewater infrastructure in the cities of Thala (15'000 inhabitants) and Fériana (27'000 inhabitants) in the Governorate of Kasserine, Tunisia. The infrastructure includes the financing of the treatment plants, the extension of the wastewater networks and pumping stations for both cities.

Micofinance project in Vietnam

The International Finance Corporation is implementing this Microfinance project in Vietnam, which aims to transform Vietnam's microfinance industry from a state-led, micro-credit focused sector towards a more commercially oriented one by providing sustainable microfinance services to Vietnam's un- and under-served poor households and informal businesses, which are estimated to be currently more than 5.7 million. The project works directly with the State Bank of Vietnam in its function as supervisory body of MFIs, selected financial institutions (at least two promising MFIs and at least one commercial bank) on improving their microfinance products, but also at the industry level by promoting responsible finance and client protection standards (training and capacity building for 10-15 financial institutions). The proposed SECO contribution for the 5 year project is USD 3 million.

WTO Policy Advise and Capacity Transfer

Tajikistan has been a member of WTO since March 2013. It is important that Tajikistan benefits from the new trade relations established with other WTO Members. Through component I of the Trade Cooperation Program (TCP) SECO supported Tajikistan's WTO accession process and the implementation of WTO rules.

FIRST Initiative Phase III Budget Increase

The overall objective of FIRST is to strengthen financial systems in low and middle-income countries and thus contribute to economic growth and poverty reduction. The expected outcome is increased stability, efficiency, depth, inclusion for the financial sector. FIRST delivers technical assistance and advisory services in the areas of financial sector regulation, supervision and development across four product lines: strategic advice, legal reform, institutional capacity and crisis preparedness.
