Water and Energy Security through Microhydels in the Hindukush

Project completed

Micro and minihydel units are an ideal solution in the particular context of remote northern districts as laying transmission lines in such a large and difficult area, serving sparse and scattered population is expensive. Also, availability of renewable energy will directly bear on the quality of life of the people e,g. reduce the workload of women, promote enterprises and small businesses, and save natural and farm forest from degradation. The overall goal is to improve the quality of life and to reduce resource-base degradation of marginalized communities in two remote mountain valleys.
