Young people, sexual and reproductive health in international cooperation

Access to sexual and reproductive health services is still a challenge worldwide, particularly in developing countries. The 13th Symposium of Medicus Mundi Switzerland, on 5 November in Basel, addresses these barriers by focusing the discussion on adolescents. The event is supported by the SDC.

The plan of action from the International Conference on Population and Development in Cairo adopted in 1994 has enabled us to move from solely focusing on population control to a wider approach covering sexual and reproductive health, women's rights and gender equality. Twenty years later, the themes of the conference are still relevant to international cooperation.

In developing countries, adolescents make up a large and increasing proportion of the population. The symposium in Basel will focus on the barriers encountered in particular by this age group which prevent them from accessing services dedicated to sexual and reproductive health.

The symposium is organised by Medicus Mundi Switzerland, the health network for everyone, to which 46 Swiss organisations involved in international health cooperation are affiliated. The SDC supports this event financially and in terms of content.
