"Les arts en toutes lettres" (The Arts Writ Large) is the theme of the African Book Fair at this year's Geneva Book and Press Fair, which will take place from 29 April to 4 May 2014. Novelists, playwrights, graphic novelists, film-makers and cartoonists who are putting their stamp on the contemporary African arts scene will be the guests of honour. The African Book Fair is supported by the SDC.

For the twelfth year running, African authors will travel to Geneva to meet their Swiss readers. Among them will be the Senegalese author and doyenne of African writers, Ken Bugul, as well as Ousmane Diarra of Mali, Azza Filali of Tunisia, Fiston Mwanza Mujila of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Juvénal Ngorwanubu of Burundi, and the Ivorian author Armand Gauz, whose novel "Debout-payé" was a huge success.

The African Book Fair will also showcase cinema inspired by black African authors, and will include a tribute to the writer-director Ousmane Sembène. A round-table discussion on the topic of film adaptation will be moderated by the Chadian director Mahamat Saleh Haroun and writers belonging to the new generation.

The Kourouma Prize will be awarded to an African author of outstanding clarity of vision and insight.
