Background

The Partnership for Action on Green Economy (PAGE) is a multi-year programme responding to the Rio+20s call for the UN system to support countries interested in pursuing green economy policies. It will deploy the joint expertise and capacity of four UN agencies,ILO, UNEP, UNIDO, and UNITAR, to progressively assist a total of 30 countries in their efforts to embark on green economy pathways. The collective endeavour ranges from mobilizing social awareness and providing specialized training to identifying critical bottlenecks, formulating and assessing policy options, and enabling policy implementation for greening the economy.

Objectives

The programme's vision is the inclusive and sustainable transformation of national economic structures in 30 countries. Through transformation at the national level, PAGE will enable marginalised groups, including poor women and men in developing countries living in poverty and degraded environments, to acquire skills and quality jobs that increase income opportunities and improve environmental conditions. The key to this transformation is shifting trade, investment and innovation policies towards the creation of a new generation of assets: clean technologies, energy and resource efficient infrastructure, trade-driven growth that promotes environmental protection and social inclusiveness, well-functioning ecosystems, a skilled labour force with green jobs driven by strong institutions and good governance.

Medium-term outcomes

Enabling conditions for national inclusive green economies are in place in each participationg country
