Background

Among the mam challenges faced by Cyprus for achieving the Lisbon employment objectives is the further development of human capital through the implementation, inter alia, of a life-long learning strategy. Despite the high educational level in Cyprus, a lack of association between basic education and vocational training and the labour market has been identified. This has resulted in imbalances between supply and demand on the labour market, both at the level of productive sectors/ sub-sectors and at the level of occupations. The relevant interventions envisaged in the National Strategic Reference Framework for Cohesion Policy 2007-2013 under the Thematic Priority "Human Resources, Employment and Social Cohesion" aim, inter alia, to the strengthening/ improvement of human resources and to increasing the adaptability of workers, enterprises and businessmen.

Objectives

The modernization of the Technical Vocational Training system of the Cyprus Productivity Centre, and the enhancement of its capacity in order to be able to offer opportunities for ab-initio ("from the beginning") training, upgrading, and eventually certification

Target groups

Young persons that need intensive training to enter the labour market, persons of groups at risk of social exclusion, professionals who seek training for upgrading their skills.
