Cities concentrate half of the world?s population and the bulk of economic activities. According to the International Panel on Climate Change, they account for 76% of energy-related global greenhouse gas emissions. Furthermore, the need to mitigate climate change will increase along with the rising energy consumption of growing cities. With this in mind, in the framework of a momentum on pan African joint action on climate change, African local governments have started committing themselves through concrete actions.
