International Geneva provides a platform for discussing and establishing rules and standards for new technologies. The FDFA hosted 'Tech4Good' and 'Geneva Day' events at the World Economic Forum in Davos, where the results of this cooperation were presented and further potential discussed.

'Together we're better': SDC and SECO sponsor initiatives run by committed young people

Working with young men and women on overcoming global challenges: the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) have launched the 'Together we're better' competition, sponsoring initiatives run by young people. The SDC and SECO are looking for innovative projects run by young people in the 16–35 age group which aim to improve the living conditions of disadvantaged communities in developing countries. Prizes will be awarded to the winning projects at the 2019 Annual Development Cooperation Conference to be held in Fribourg on 21 June 2019.

Federal councillor Ignazio Cassis signed an air services agreement on Tuesday in Lusaka with Acting Minister of Transport and Communications Kafwaya Mutotwe. This agreement strengthens ties between the two countries and is one of a range of measures with the potential to strengthen economic relations. During this first visit by a federal councillor to Zambia, the head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) also met with President Edgar Lungu.

Federal Councillor Ignazio Cassis, head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA), will visit Zambia, Zimbabwe and South Africa next week during his first trip to Africa. The main goals of the trip are to strengthen economic and political relations with these three southern African countries, including by signing an agreement on air transport with Zambia, and to visit projects supported by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), particularly in the field of HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment.

In its meeting on 7 December, the Federal Council reviewed the global compact on refugees, which is expected to be endorsed by the UN General Assembly in conjunction with its annual resolution on the work of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). The Federal Council has tasked the FDFA to instruct Switzerland's permanent mission in New York to vote in favour of this resolution and to inform the competent parliamentary committees of its decision.

At Tuesday's meeting in Bern, Ignazio Cassis, head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA), and UNICEF Executive Director Henrietta Fore stressed the importance of this relationship in implementing United Nations reforms and the objectives of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Ms Fore also met Manuel Sager, Director General of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), along with members of Parliament.
