Una imagen vale más que mil palabras. La COSUDE pidió a aquellos que viven la migración que relatasen en imágenes cuán beneficiosa es. Más de 250 personas de los cuatro rincones del planeta han participado en el concurso mundial de fotografía "La otra cara de la migración". Los galardonados cuentan las historias de vida que se esconden tras dichas imágenes extraordinarias.


2015: a watershed year for Swiss international cooperation

The Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) are jointly publishing the 2015 Annual Report on Swiss International Cooperation, which is divided into five chapters. In 2015, Switzerland achieved an important milestone towards sustainable development by adopting the 2030 Agenda. It also continued its efforts to provide opportunities for people in its partner countries. In response to the proliferation of violent conflicts, the SDC provided emergency aid to victims on the ground and to forcibly displaced people.


Annual ICRC meeting with Swiss-chaired Donor Support Group

Federal Councillor Didier Burkhalter took part today in the annual meeting between the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and its principal donors. The ICRC Donor Support Group is currently chaired by Switzerland. Both ICRC President Peter Maurer and ICRC Director-General Yves Daccord are attending the two-day meeting in Bern from 23 to 24 June. The focus of the meeting is on strengthening partnerships with the private sector in humanitarian crises. This meeting marks the end of Switzerland's chairmanship of the ICRC Donor Support Group.


The Head of the FDFA meets the Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister

Federal Councillor Didier Burkhalter today received the Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Samdech Krolahom Sar Kheng. One of the aims of this courtesy visit was to strengthen bilateral relations to foster closer ties between Switzerland and the Southeast Asian region. The discussions also focused on the activities of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) in Cambodia. The Head of the FDFA also addressed the political situation in Cambodia and expressed his wish to see the two main political parties revive the "culture of dialogue" agreed in 2014.

La avenida Habib Bourguiba en el centro de la capital tunecina, un lugar muy simbólico de la revolución democrática en Túnez, exhibe la exposición fotográfica Making Peace, apoyada por Suiza. La exposición presenta retratos de mujeres y hombres galardonados con el Premio Nobel en el marco de la iniciativa Democracia sin Fronteras. Suiza apoya la transición democrática en Túnez mediante proyectos sobre el terreno.

La COSUDE está intensificando sus actividades en este ámbito; acaba de iniciar dos nuevos proyectos en Mongolia y Bolivia que tienen por objeto apoyar la aplicación de las leyes contra la violencia hacia las mujeres recientemente promulgadas en ambos países.


International community aims to rid the world of AIDS by 2030

By 2030 HIV/AIDS should no longer be a threat to public health. This is the message of the Swiss delegation to the 2016 High-Level Meeting on Ending AIDS, which takes place on 8-10 June at the UN headquarters in New York. It thereby supports the adopted political declaration on HIV/AIDS, which requires measures against the epidemic to be intensified in the coming five years. The negotiations for the High-Level Meeting were led by Switzerland and Zambia, a country especially hard hit by HIV/AIDS, on behalf of the president of the UN General Assembly.


UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi visits Bern

Today there are more than 60 million people worldwide who have been forced to flee their homes because of conflicts and humanitarian crises. Many of them receive assistance from the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). The head of the UN agency, Filippo Grandi, was received on Thursday in Bern by Federal Councillor Simonetta Sommaruga and FDFA State Secretary Yves Rossier. Mr Grandi's visit provided an occasion to take stock of the relations between Switzerland and the UNHCR and to discuss current challenges.



Aid and prospects close to home for refugees: Federal Councillor Didier Burkhalter visits Swiss-sponsored projects in Lebanon

Having attended the World Humanitarian Summit in Istanbul where he discussed measures to jointly tackle violent conflict, major humanitarian challenges and the refugee crisis, the Head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs FDFA, Federal Councillor Didier Burkhalter, stopped off in Lebanon. In the capital, Beirut, he visited a number of projects in a show of support for the efforts being made by Switzerland and its partner organisations to improve the future prospects of people in Lebanon. There, he spoke among other things with young people about their tough living conditions and their ideas for the future.

El Programa de las Naciones Unidas para el Desarrollo ayuda a los países a prevenir los conflictos armados y la violencia, y a reconstruir mejor y más sólidamente cuando ocurre una crisis. Suiza prestará un apoyo suplementario a sus programas de prevención de crisis y recuperación. El 23 de mayo de 2016 el consejero federal Didier Burkhalter y la administradora del PNUD, Helen Clark, han firmado un acuerdo de colaboración de 13,8 millones CHF en el marco de la Cumbre Humanitaria Mundial.


New aid consignment on its way to Donetsk

Since 22 May 2016, two Swiss Humanitarian Aid convoys carrying chemicals for water treatment and medical goods have been on their way to the conflict zone in Ukraine. Part of the consignment, containing medical supplies and medicines, will be delivered to the hospital in Kurakhove this morning. In addition, rail transport is being used for the first time.
