Entrevista a Besnik Murrani, agente de aduanas albanés
Desde 2006, Besnik Murrani trabaja como agente de aduanas en el puerto de Durrës, situado a 30 km de Tirana, la capital albanesa. Con su equipo, se beneficia de una formación financiada por la COSUDE en el marco del proyecto de cooperación policial regional en los Balcanes Occidentales. Implementado por la Oficina de las Naciones Unidas contra la Droga y el Delito (ONUDD) y la Organización Mundial de Aduanas, el "Programa de control de los contenedores" ayuda a los países de los Balcanes a luchar de manera más coordinada contra el crimen organizado.

Switzerland spent CHF 2.964 billion on official development assistance (ODA) in 2013, an increase of 3.4% compared with 2012. With an ODA of 0.47% of gross national income (GNI) in 2013, Switzerland ranks 8th among the 29 member states of the Development Assistance Committee (DAC) of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), which is publishing its ODA rankings this Tuesday.

Devastada por la guerra en 1994, Ruanda ha encontrado 20 años después una cierta estabilidad. Junto con otros proveedores de fondos, Suiza ha contribuido ampliamente a la reconstrucción todavía en marcha en este país. Las actuales acciones de la COSUDE en Ruanda pretenden mejorar aún más la funcionalidad de las instituciones para que la población tenga acceso a servicios de base de calidad y a un entorno que favorezca el empleo.

The Federal Council has appointed the current Swiss ambassador in Washington, Manuel Sager, as the new head of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC). Manuel Sager has long experience in the international, financial policy and economic fields and in particular gained a very solid understanding of the challenges of development policy during his posting at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. He will take up his new post on 1 November 2014, succeeding Martin Dahinden, who will become the new ambassador in Washington.

Over three years after Switzerland and Nigeria signed their migration partnership agreement, the delegations of these two countries met today in Abuja for the 5th technical committee meeting. One of the main points of discussion was Switzerland's recently launched regional migration and development programme in West Africa, for which Nigeria is one of the main beneficiaries. The meeting also enabled follow-up of the June 2013 joint action plan to counter irregular migration, improve police cooperation and assess progress made in various projects.

El 22 de marzo es el Día Mundial del Agua. Para Suiza, la conservación de los recursos hídricos mundiales es una prioridad. Un gran número de temas y desafíos globales están relacionados con la seguridad del agua, tales como, por ejemplo, la seguridad alimentaria, la producción energética, la preservación del medio ambiente y la salud de la población mundial. Suiza aboga por que en la agenda para el desarrollo y los objetivos de sostenibilidad después de 2015 se fije un amplio objetivo en materia de agua. Asimismo, apoya una estrategia que comprende cuatro ejes de acción.

"Living Humanitarian Responsibility" is the title of this year's Annual Conference of Swiss Humanitarian Aid. At the annual conference on 14 March, the President of the Swiss Confederation, Mr Didier Burkhalter, and SDC Director-General Martin Dahinden spoke about Switzerland's humanitarian actors. Swiss experts gave presentations on the response by Swiss Humanitarian Aid to current crises.

Klee, Macke, Moilliet" at the Zentrum Paul Klee, which is sponsored by the President of the Swiss Confederation, Mr Didier Burkhalter, the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) is organising a series of events on cultural and academic exchanges between Switzerland and Tunisia. Under the title "More than a Journey", the events focus on the key role played by migrants in the exchange of culture and knowledge between the two countries.

On Wednesday evening 5 March 2014, the FDFA state secretary, Yves Rossier, received Mr Djibril Bassolé, minister of foreign affairs and regional cooperation of Burkina Faso, who is in Switzerland on an official working visit. Switzerland’s long-standing commitment to Burkina Faso, in particular in the field of development and economic cooperation, was one of the topics of the talks. Mali was also an item on the agenda.
