China: MoFCOM med. donation 2019-nCoV

As of 17th of February 2020, a total of 70’548 cases and 1’770 deaths have been reported in China alone; while 877 cases and 5 deaths are reported amongst 29 countries. A vaste majority of the cases have been diagnosed in Hubei Province, putting the provincial care system under considerable stress.

 

The Swiss Embassy in Beijing has been approached by the Ministry of Commerce (MoFCOM) Corona-Virus Coordination Unit with a list of medical equipment urgently required for Hubei Province hospitals responding to the 2019 n-CoV epidemi

UNMAS: Coordinación regional para la Acción contra Minas

La Ayuda Humanitaria y Desarrollo (COSUDE) de la Embajada de Suiza en Colombia apoyará a UNMAS para consolidar y expandir la capacidad de la Autoridad Nacional para la Acción contra Minas: la Oficina del Alto Comisionado para la Paz - Descontamina Colombia. El proyecto se enfoca en la coordinación con autoridades regionales y locales, así como con agentes vinculados a políticas de desarrollo. Se implementa en un período de transición de gobiernos locales y regionales, por lo que busca la inclusión de la Acción Integral Contra Minas (AICMA) en la política pública de 13 departamentos. Es la continuación de un proyecto financiado por el Fondo Multidonante de Naciones Unidas, articulado a la implementación del Acuerdo de Paz y de la Convención de Ottawa.

 


Contribution to the VII Regional Platform on Disaster Risk Reduction in the Americas and the Caribbean

Financially support the Regional Platform on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) in Jamaica 2020 (RPDRR 20) co-convened by CDEMA and UNDRR with a non-earmarked contribution to the overall costs and thereby assist implementation of the Sendai Framework in the Americas. Accompany this contribution by providing assistance in the preparations relying on the experience from previous platforms and the GPDRR 19 and support the participation of key stakeholders in the Americas that exhibit their activities in collaboration with SDC.


Mercy Corps - Building Resilience in Conflict-Affected Communities (BRAC)

South Kordofan is one of the areas in Sudan were the armed conflict is temporarily halted, but not yet solved, and many communities are still suffering from its consequences. These communities are hosting significant numbers of IDPs and refugees from war torn South Sudan, who share the very limited available resources. The project aims at increasing the resilience of female and male members of vulnerable households to economic, social and climate related shocks through improved access to gender responsive basic services and increased agricultural production.

Le Swiss Bluetec Bridge rempli le vide entre soutien public aux PME et investissements privés afin que les entreprises suisses innovantes mettent de manière durable leurs technologies de pointe au service des pauvres.

This represents a unique window of opportunity for Switzerland, which has always pushed for inclusive intergovernmental processes, to ensure that these governance discussions are inclusive and address the challenges of sustainable development.


Contribution to IFRC Emergency Appeal: Novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) outbreak

As of 06. February 2020 a total of 28’292 infections and 565 deaths have been reported with the majority of the cases occurring in China.

The preliminary Emergency Appeal from the IFRC is seeking Swiss Francs 3 Million to support Red Cross Red Crescent Societies globally, to contribute to stopping transmission of the virus, and helping to ensure the health and dignity of communities affected by the outbreak. IFRC will work closely with National Societies in countries where transmission has taken place, and on preparedness measures for all countries. The main area of focus for this response is Health and WASH, which will include risk communication and community engagement, psychosocial support, capacity building of NS on epidemic response and support. Other areas of focus are protection, gender and inclusion and migration. While at the moment the response is largely in the Asia Pacific region, the IFRC is supporting National Societies in at risk countries with preparedness activities. The IFRC at global, country and regional level is coordinating with other agencies including WHO, UNICEF and CDC in information sharing and guidance.


WFP Haiti Supply Chain Response

Face à la hausse de l'insécurité en Haiti depuis 2018 avec un pic ces 3 derniers mois, l'accès des acteurs humanitaires et de développement à leurs zones d'intervention est devenu difficile. Les populations en besoin d'assistance sont à la hausse sans pouvoir être assistées à cause des lacunes des capacités logistiques. La DDC supporte cette intervention en vue de faciliter la reprise/continuité des activités, renforcer les capacités logistiques (aérienne, maritime, terrestre ..) en vue d'atteindre les populations en besoin d'assistance.


Increasing access to patented medicines with the pharmaceutical sector

2 billion people worldwide do not have access to essential medicines. 50 of these medicines, e.g. for cancer or HIV are patented. The Medicines Patent Pool is a proven mechanism that negotiates with patent holders voluntary licenses for markets in low-income countries which are granted to multiple generic manufacturers. The competition drives down prices but ensures an attractive royalty for the patent holder. SDC supports this voluntary approach to make patented medicines available to people in these countries.

Governance and Decentralisation Programme Exit Phase (GDP Exit Phase)

The Exit Phase of the Governance and Decentralisation Programme will consolidate achievements of previous two phases to support decentralisation and democratisation reforms. It will focus on institutionalisation and ensuring sustainability of results to contribute to equitable and sustainable development through decentralized service delivery and enhanced citizen engagement in public affairs, including in the urban areas. Swiss expertise and Swiss decentralisation model will be used.
