UNICEF Strengthening peace building and Recovery Results for Children and Women - SDC Global Institutions Support

Proyecto terminado

One billion children live in areas affected by conflict and high levels of violence. The changing nature of conflicts and the fragility of states are a big challenge for recovery and peace-building. The operational presence of UNICEF before, during and after conflicts makes it a key stakeholder with competence in transition from emergency and recovery to development. This project strengthens the rights of children in fragile and post crisis situations by building up systematic capacities and learning in conflict sensitivity, peace building and recovery in fragile contexts.

Improving the transition from response to recovery and development, addressing the challenges of peace building - particularly in fragile states - are high on the global agenda. The demands of recovery and peace building in complex contexts require adequate skills to analyze risks, plan strategically for emergencies, and manage shifts from humanitarian to development programming. UNICEF has to learn innovative ways of integrating conflict sensitive and peace building approaches across the organisation. Despite existing efforts, more systematic investments into capacities and learning are necessary. This project is a joint endeavour between SDC Global Institutions Division and SDC Humanitarian Aid, each organisational unit covering different needs. The project will further strengthen synergies and collaboration for a more effective transition, early recovery and development in fragile contexts.
