Priority themes WASH and Protection 2017
In the frame of the dispatch 2017-2020, 4 priority themes have been defined for the SDC/HA domain, namely DRR, SGBV, WASH and Protection, the two latter ones being hosted by the Africa H division. This CP will fund several activities implemented for the whole SDC/HA domain in order to increase the impact and coherence of priority themes such as defined in the operational concepts adopted by the HA domain in 2016.

| Contexto | Protection and WASH operational concepts have been adopted on November 17th 2016 by the management of SDC/HA which outline the main action lines for each priority theme as well and lists activities and projects to be funded to achieve the proposed results. |

WASH WASH programming & implementation capacity and awareness about state-of-the-art sector approaches are strengthened for SDC/SHA’s global relief response. Protection The increased integration of protection in SDC/HA’s strategies and programming and the enhanced internal capacity and of the partners contribute to foster the protection of vulnerable persons, to increase the number of persons reached by protection activities supported by SDC/HA, and to reduce the violence (including forced displacement) in the countries of intervention. |

WASH Direct beneficiaries: the 88 active members of the SHA expert Group WASH as well as selected HA/SHA offices in the field. Resultados previstos: WASH Output 1: Selected WASH training events successfully organized for general humanitarian aid and SHA staff in HA/SHA focus countries. Output 2: Access to sanitation online education enabled for the humanitarian aid context. Output 3: SHA programs benefit from Sandec’s sanitation advisory support (on demand) on site. Output 4: SHA programs benefit from Sandec’s sanitation desk based advisory support (on demand). Output 5: Dissemination of the Arabic Compendium (in collaboration with CEWAS Middle East) sanitation/FSM planning approaches. Output 6: Adaptation of the existing Compendium for the humanitarian context Protection Output 1: Selected backstopping’s missions and protection assessments in support of CS’s processes, protection portfolios’ reviews, and mainstreaming endeavors. Output 2: Support to the Inter-Agency Protection Standby Capacity Project (ProCap) to deploy senior personnel to strengthen the capacity of RC/HCs, UN Agencies, NGOs and the protection cluster in programming and mainstreaming; to train up to 100 mid-level protection staff from Standby Partners and UN Agencies. Output 3: Support to operational research focused on generating and assessing innovations in the protection response in aid design and delivery. Output 4: Organization of regional protection workshops in priority contexts addressed to SDC/HA staff, SHA experts, and implementing partners. |

WASH The EAWAG backstopping mandate will provide indirect support to the MENA water programs and other selected projects and contributes to the smooth implementation of the Operational Concept WASH adopted by the SDC/HA domain on November 17th 2016. Protection The proposed project will contribute to the implementation of the SDC/HA Operational Concept Protection 2017-2020. The strategic-consulting and backstopping support to SDC/HA offices and geographical desks will support the integration of protection aspects in country strategies and in humanitarian and development programmes, while the development of expertise through workshops, trainings, and sectorial researches will consent to strengthen internal and partners’ operational capacity. |
