Support to Palestine Aid Watch

Projet terminé

The Palestinian initiative "Aid Watch Palestine" aims at bringing up the voices of the aid beneficiaries, especially in the Gaza Strip through critical but constructive analysis of assistance. It will support collective discussion about international assistance framework. Support to this initiative is in line with the Swiss Cooperation Strategy for the oPt especially with the outcome related to enhancing the participation of civil society in decisions related to reconstruction and recovery efforts in the Gaza Strip.

Contexte

For the last ten years, the Gaza Strip has been under land, air and sea closure by the Occupying Power (Israel): development have significantly deteriorated for the 2 million Palestinians living in the Strip, which has been badly impacted by three armed conflicts in the last six years (2008-2009, 2012 and 2014) and by the consequences of the intra-Palestinian divide. After the devastating effect of the last round of hostilities in 2014, reconstruction and recovery have been slow due to insufficient funding, impediments related to the import of goods and material, in particular construction material and restrictions in the free movement of persons.

The humanitarian/development space is also severely curtailed in the Gaza Strip: difficulty for aid workers to get permit to enter/exit, interference of the de facto authorities. Furthermore, operational activities in the field of development of humanitarian aid are usually planned, implemented and monitored with little participation of affected communities and Palestinian institutions, such as Municipalities in Gaza.

Objectifs To contribute to effective aid leadin to rights-claimin gand sustainable development solutions.
Groupes cibles Primary target groups include female and male Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. The secondary target group is composed of aid stakeholders (aid providers and donors) in the oPt.
Effets à moyen terme Mainstream a constructively critical apporach to aid into current discourses (Palestinian, solidarity, development and humanitarian).
